Matthew Edgar is a partner at Elementive (, a Colorado-based consulting firm specializing in technical SEO. With over twenty years of experience, Matthew has helped hundreds of clients optimize their websites, improving organic traffic and conversions. His clients include startups, small businesses and Fortune 500 companies. He is the author of Tech SEO Guide (Apress, 2023) and the recently released Speed Metrics Guide (Apress, 2024). Matthew has also has spoken at leading SEO conferences, including SMX, MozCon and MarTech. He holds a Master's in Information and Communications Technology from the University of Denver. Personal Bio

Hello. I'm Matthew Edgar and I'm a partner and web consultant here at Elementive. I built my first website in the late '90s and started working on websites professionally in 2001. Initially, I started on the technical side as a programmer and developer but then quickly realized that writing good code and building cool functionality wasn't enough to really help clients. I crossed over into marketing (SEO in particular) but found driving traffic and rankings wasn't enough to get the results companies wanted either. In addition, I also saw many mistakes being made because decisions weren't grounded in enough data or research.

What I have learned over the last two decades is that the best results for a company's website stem from working in the area where marketing and technology intersect and backing that work up with strong data analysis and research. That intersection of technology, marketing, and data analysis is where I've found the greatest benefit and the most value in my work with hundreds of different clients on their websites. This is the work we get to do every day at Elementive.

I earned my Master's in Information and Communications Technology, with a focus on web development and wrote/researched my thesis on mobile usability. Along with this formal training, I've worked across and learned from experts in many different disciplines, including programming, analytics, usability, conversion optimization, search engine optimization (SEO), product development, and content marketing. Bringing these different disciplines together is what leads to answers and results.

In addition to consulting with clients, I regularly speak at conferences and teach workshops, including teaching courses with O'Reilly Media. I'm also the author of three books: Speed Metrics Guide (Apress, 2024), Tech SEO Guide (Apress, 2023), and Elements of a Successful Website (2017). My books offer practical approaches to helping you evaluate and optimize your website's SEO and UX to improve performance.

Believe it or not (and most don't), I do have a personal life. I've been happily married for the last fifteen years. On evenings and weekends, I can often be found watching movies or with my nose in a book.
